Is there any way of getting a Nevron Chart originally developed in VS2005 / SSRS2005 to render from an SSRS 2008 server.

We are able to deploy the SSRS 2005 reports to our SSRS 2008 server, and run them however the Nevron Charts don't seem to render.  All other report content renders ok.

Hi Michael,

Yes you need to save the control template (right click Save/Load template in design view) and import it into a 2008 report. In fact all the examples of the control were ported that way.

Hope this helps - let us know if you meet any problems.

With a standard SSRS 2005 report, with no Nevron report object embedded, it is possible to deploy an SSRS 2005 report (RDL 2.0) to an SSRS 2008 report server (and run it) with no code changes required.

Are you suggesting that, if an RDL 2.0 report contains a Nevron report object we cannot deploy that report to an SSRS 2008 report server without modifying the report RDL?

Thanks,

Michael.

That is true - you cannot deploy any SSRS 2005 report that contains a custom report item to a SSRS 2008 server, which is a confirmed limitation of the automatic SSRS 2008 auto upgrade. When you run a SSRS 2005 report on a SSRS 2008 server, the server performs an automatic conversion of the old RDL schema to the new one. In this process it converts what it can from the old RDL format to the new one, and actually renders the converted copy.

As far as we know, we are the only vendor for SSRS that provides forward and backward compatible state of the the report items (e.g. you can use SSRS 2008 to develop a chart and then load its template in a SSRS 2005 report and vise versa). Unfortunately we cannot plugin in the default SSRS 2008 auto upgrade to perform that automatically.
