In order to change the data label style (from Text Style), you will also have to change the default Appearance options.
From Chart > Chart Areas > Appearance, uncheck Automatic and Outline Data Labels.

By using custom code, you can apply palettes, change individual label style etc.

Brilliant, thanks.

Is it now possible to change the font size/colour etc of the text in the data labels? On the data labels tab in the Values Grouping Edotor I have tried clicking "Text Style..." and changing the values in the text tab of the Text Style Editor but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Hello David,
When you set the data labels to visible from the Values Grouping Editor, by default the Format field should be <label>.
You should be able to set the Label from the Values Grouping Editor – General tab.

You can’t change the data labels in design mode since the data is not yet aggregated.
You can also take a look at the following help documentation topic: Chart > Data Groupings > Data Point Formatting Commands

I am using the evaluation Nevron Chart with SSRS 2008 with some very simple test data. My data has two columns. Group (nvarchar) and premium (int). There are 3 groups, and 3 numerical values are shown under premium. I have put this data into a chart (premium as the value, group as the category). I want to make this a pie chart (showing division of premium across groups) and have the groups shown using data labels that are connected by a line to the slices in the pie.

I have opened the Values Grouping Editor, clicked on the Data Labels tab and clicked the "visible" box. This makes the data labels appear in design view. 2 probles though:

1) They are not there in the preview view
2) In design view they only say D0, D1 etc... and I want them to say the group names.

I have just started using the evaluation copy, can anyone help please? Would be very grateful.
