I am evaluating the Nevron Chart for Sharepoint 2009 Vol 2 version and I am impressed and excited at what I have been able to achieve through the web part. After running the 'Run Chart Designer' and connecting to my datasource, I can create the charts I need and preview them. However the problem I have is when I am finished and want to 'publish/display' the chart on my Sharepoint site (by clicking the apply or ok button) the Nevron Webpart display a box with an error message in it that says;

" The following error occurred while updating the chart: ConnectionString cannot be an empty string."

Can someone help me with this?

Hello Peter,

Thank you for your evaluation and your interest in Nevron Chart for SharePoint.

Can you check if you have administrator rights on the SharePoint server? Also, did you managed to run the Chart Samples which are distributed with the Chart for SharePoint installation package?

When you click on the “Apply” button from the designer, do you have any specific error message in the bottom of the page? Which browsers are you working with?

We will do our best to assist you.

Best Regards,
Nevron Support Team

I found out what the problem was. I dont know why but when I removed another web part from the page the Nevron Chart published without a problem. The other web part was a chart add on from another company. All is good now thanks.

Hi Peter,

You may have forgotten about the issue that you have experienced, but we had to check it anyway, so we downloaded as much evals of sharepoint web parts as we could and tested the chart with them. It turned out that there is indeed a bug in the current implementation of the chart designer, when it tries to save the state to the webpart on the page. The problem was an unsafe cast, which is fixed in the SharePoint Vision version that we are about to release this week (along with several other issues that clients experienced). You may be interested to know that it has many improvements the major one of which is the new Gauge for SharePoint.

Best Regards,

Could this bug cause my problem. We have the latest eval version of Nevron Charts and as soon as I click on the Run Chart Designer, I get this error:

Error: Failed to load the chart state from file: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\template\layouts\Chevron\Chart\State\... To create a default state file click the Reset button

What Reset button???

Yes - both the saving and loading of the state edited by the chart designer may be affected by this bug, when there are specific other third party web parts on the SharePoint page. This bug is fixed in the version that we are going to release very soon (we are now working on the final touches).
